When Caitlyn Jenner appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair for the first time as a woman, the world was amazed at her transition from Bruce to a beautiful cover girl.
But while her physical appearance was one part of the transition, what Caitlyn’s kids would call her is another.
Her kids were 100% supportive of Caitlyn’s gender change, but it was revealed that some things would stay the same.
“[Caitlyn] spoke to each of the kids separately and told them to take their time in getting used to this,” a Jenner family friend told People. “She would prefer not to be called ‘Bruce,’ but told the kids that they could still call her ‘Dad,’ at least for now.”
We can imagine that something of this magnitude obviously takes time to get used to…
The source continued, “Caitlyn has been really understanding that it doesn’t come naturally for anyone. No one expects this change to happen overnight.”
Even Caitlyn’s mom Esther Jenner said that she would still be calling her ‘Bruce’ and it will take some time before she’s fully adjusted.
“I’ve called [Caitlyn] Bruce since the day he was born,” Esther said. “It’s going to take some time, but I will adjust.”
The source told People that of course, the kids will make a mistake or slip, but then another family member will step in. “The whole family is correcting each other when they get it wrong. Not in a joking way, but just a reminder that, ‘Hey, everything’s changed, and we need to respect how she wants to be called.'”
