A medical doctor in Rivers State has died from Lassa fever.The State Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Doctor FURO GREEN, gave the identity of the deceases as Doctor LIVING JAMALA of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital in Port Harcourt.Doctor FURO GREEN said the deceased doctor had come in contact with a Lassa fever patient, adding that authorities of BMH, NMA and the Rivers State Ministry are working with experts from the World Health Organisation to tackle the outbreak.The Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at BMH, Doctor WOKE ALEXANDER told a radio correspondent VICTOR EZEAMA that late Doctor LIVING JAMALA contracted the deadly virus from a pregnant woman at the hospital.Residents of Rivers State are advised to stay alert and to maintain good hygiene to check the spread of Lassa fever, just like they did in containing the recent outbreak of Ebola virus.
